I work extensively leading drama sessions with primary age children in Tower Hamlets. I am employed to foster an enthusiasm for language through the use of drama based on texts the children are reading. Many of these children speak English as a second or third language. Over a third find accessing reading difficult. Therefore sessions have to be based in physicality and motivate the children to participate and therefore understand what they are reading or writing about.
My work enables children to lose inhibitions and therefore maximise their potential to understand.
Fundamentally I believe that no child should have barriers placed in the way of their learning and that drama is at the forefront of overcoming any such barriers.
I have extensive experience of planning with teachers and curriculum managers and am happy to take my work in whatever direction is necessary to achieve the desired outcome. I am used to working with full classes.
I have a full enhanced up to date CRB check dated October 2008
Upcoming work will include writing and directing year six productions, Drama in literacy work in 3 primary schools in East London and from January 2010 running a saturday club In Newham, with Teenagers from the Asian community who have been identified as having either social, emotional or behavioural issues. This work has come about as a direct result of my successful work in schools and the wider community in Tower Hamlets.
I am available to work in schools during lesson time and for both weekend and after school clubs. All sessions can be adapted if required and I am happy to provide sample sessions and rates to interested parties. I look forward to hearing from you.
